Friday 5: Take Me to the Old Playground

  1. When did you most recently swing on a swing? Probably somewhere in the last several months. We’ve taken our son to the park and hopped on some swings ourselves in the process.
  2. On what issue have you teeter-tottered? Oh, this is a fun one. A bus driver in the area made the news for allegedly stopped the bus long enough that the kids were up to 45 minutes late and were scared. One claimed the driver turned the heat on full blast on an unseasonably warm day and threatened to kill them. A cellphone video shows the parents showing up and prying the doors open and kids coming out crying. At first, I thought the dude was just pulling over for a bit to get those little shits to settle down, then I swung around to thinking he went way too far, and now the plot has thickened with a new report saying the claims about the heat and threats haven’t been proven and that the driver felt the kids were being so unruly that he called school administrators and was told to pull over until they could meet him. I still have a lot of questions, though, like why the parents had to fight so hard to get the kids off the bus. I’d be livid if my kid was 45 minutes late and in tears.
  3. How close is your residence to a park, and when did you last visit? We’re probably within about five or ten minutes of a park, but the one we prefer to visit is a little farther out than that. It’s bigger and nicer, and it’s got these amazing playground shaped like a pirate ship. It was designed with autistic and disabled kids in mind in particular–everything is low to the ground and wheelchair accessible. Turns out that also makes it perfect for wobbly toddlers.
  4. How capable are you with a charcoal grill? Not at all.
  5. With what are you playing hide-and-seek? I don’t know!

From Friday 5.

  1. The schoolbus story is wild!

    1. It’s taken another turn! The school district is adamant the bus driver did nothing wrong and is pursuing criminal charges against parents and disciplinary action for kids.
